Emma Spiro represents individuals and entities in criminal prosecutions, criminal and regulatory investigations, and civil litigation. She has represented clients in a diverse range of matters involving alleged violations of securities, fraud, and bribery laws as well as complex commercial matters involving separation disputes, breach of contract and employment matters. A trial lawyer, she served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of New Jersey for five years. As a prosecutor, Ms. Spiro investigated and tried healthcare fraud, economic crime, opioid distribution and violent crime cases, among others. During her tenure with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ms. Spiro also led numerous complex investigations, including in the areas of telemedicine fraud, investment fraud and insider trading. In 2023, Ms. Spiro received the Office’s award for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney.
Prior to joining the United States Attorney’s Office, Ms. Spiro practiced at both boutique and large firms in New York, where she focused her practice on criminal defense and civil litigation. Ms. Spiro also served as a law clerk for The Hon. John Michael Vazquez of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, from 2016-2017.
Ms. Spiro is a member of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association, and serves on the White Collar Crime Committee of the Association of the City Bar of New York, and on the Federal Criminal Practice Committee of the Federal Bar Council. She also serves as faculty for the Federal Bar Council’s Access to Counsel Program, which provides trial skills training and moot court opportunities for pro bono attorneys.
Ms. Spiro graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, where she was an All-American lacrosse player and female student-athlete of the year. She received her law degree from New York University School of Law in 2015, where she graduated cum laude. Ms. Spiro is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey.
